SECTION – A
I. Write short notes on:

1. On the complaint of a father that his minor daughter was kidnapped by her lover, the police officer arrested the girl and her lover. The girl was sent for medical examination. How can you help the police by resorting to radiological examination?           (2)

2. External examination of a dead body showed that Rigormortis had disappeared from the jaw muscles, but still retained in the limbs, greenish yellow discolouration was seen in the right flank. What is the appropriate time since death, from the findings? What is the reason for the colour change in the right flank?                                                (1+1=2)

3. A person alleges that he was hit on the head with an iron rod; on examination, an open wound with clean cut margins is seen on the scalp in the occipital area. How will you decide whether the allegation is true or not?                                          (2)

4. In an alleged case of rape of a 25 year old female, the accused pleaded that he had done sex with her consent. The blood examination of the victim soon after the act showed alcohol level of 200mg%. Comment on the criminal responsibility of the accused. Which criminal court has the jurisdiction to conduct the trial of such a case?

5. A case of criminal abortion is admitted to the ward. What are the medico legal duties of the doctor in such a case?

8. In a case of death due to gunshot injury, a bullet was recovered from the dead body. How will you decide whether the gun recovered from the house of the accused was used for firing this bullet?                                                                                              (1)

9. What is precipitate labour? What postmortem findings in the foetus suggest this condition?

10. A dead body was brought with a ligature around the neck. Mention two definite external postmortem findings of antemortem hanging.                             (1)

11. A patient was admitted with gastroenteritis and brady arrhythmia. Blood examination
showed hyper kalemia. What is the poison responsible? What is the antidote?

12. A woman was admitted with superficial burns on the whole of lower limbs, perineum and genetalia. Is it sufficient to cause death in the ordinary course? Why?

14. A patient under treatment in a Govt.District Hospital suffered an injury due to the

15. A dead body is brought with a stab injury on the neck. What precaution will you take
before starting the dissection of the heart?                                    (1)

SECTION – B

III. Write short notes on

16. An old woman is admitted with history of ingesting some corrosive acid. What will be thepostmortem findings in the (A) mouth (B) Stomach, if it was sulphuric acid?

17. Dead body showed a ligature mark around the neck. How will you decide whether it is a case of hanging or strangulation from

(a) External neck findings
(b) Internal neck findings (1+1=2)

18. A dead body was found in water. Autopsy did not show any signs of inhalation of water. However the autopsy surgeon opines that it could be a case of drowning; your comments.

19. Young male was found dead with two gunshot injuries on the head, one on the right side and the other on the left side. How will you differentiate the entrance wound from the exit? What findings at the entrance wound will make you suspect the possibility of a homicide?

20. A female was discharged after hysterectomy operation. Doctor neglected to tell the
patient when to come back to remove the cotton packs which were kept inside the vagina. When the packs got infected, patient went to a nurse, who removed it from vagina. Patient sued the doctor for his negligence. What will be the most likely defence of the doctor? Why?

21. Unconscious person was brought to casualty; Neuro surgeon suggests surgery to save the life of the patient. But there are no relatives to give written consent for surgery. What will you do? What is the principle involved?

23. In an alleged case of death by poisoning chemical analysis report comes as negative. Mention four reasons for it.

24. How will you classify the following injuries legally? Give reasons?
A) Dislocation of tooth
B) Stab injury on the liver

25. What is dowry-death?

26. What is acid phosphatase test?

27. A 50 yr. old man died suddenly due to natural disease. What is the commonest cause? What postmortem findings will confirm the diagnosis?

28. What is testamentary capacity? What are the conditions to be satisfied for it?

29. A person is bearing accusatory voices in his ears without any external sound. What is suffering from? In which mental disease, this condition is commonly seen?

30. Name the poisons against which the following specific antidotes are useful.
(a) Penicillamine (b) Copper sulphate (c) Amyl nitrate (d) Thiopentone sodium
